X-40A first flight is a success
The first of a series of free-flight tests of the X-40A, a subscale, unpowered version of the X-37 technology demonstrator, was airlaunched from an Army CH-47 Chinook helicopter at 15,000 feet above Rogers Dry Lake March 14. The landing – the 47th Shuttle landing to take place at Edwards – marked the end of the 23rd flight of the Space Shuttle Atlantis and the 102nd Space Shuttle mission of NASA's space program.
