Dryden honors some of its finest employees
X-Press Editor Note: Don Black, now retired, attended the award ceremony to accept the committee's thanks for making the Dryden Honor Awards a part of Dryden culture. Milton O. Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award: Bill Dana Director's Award: Russ Davis Minority Contractor of the Year: ASandM President's Y2K Council Medal to Make NASA Y2K Ready: Rob Binkley, Doris Dowden, Lisa Gardner, Buddy Reckline, and Brian Villalva 2000 Pride in NASA (PIN) Awards: Pedro Arevalo, Sylvia Harrison, Patty Peters, and Jennifer Terrelonge Dryden Honor Awards Administrative Sandra Meske, X, received this award for excellence in diplomacy and communication skills in support of Dryden management. Administrative Support/Secretarial Shannon Furnier, L, was honored for providing professional service and thoughtful, personal attention within the legal office. Best Paper for 1999 Edwin Saltzman (ASandM), K. Charles Wang (The Aerospace Corporation), and Kenneth W. Iliff, X, were honored for their paper "Flight-Determined Subsonic Lift and Drag Characteristics of Seven Lifting-Body and Wing-Body Reentry Vehicle Configurations With Truncated Bases." AIAA 99-0383 Best NASA Series Report for 1999 Laurie Marshall, RA, received this honor for her work "Boundary-Layer Transition Results From the F-16XL-2 Supersonic Laminar Flow Control Experiment." NASA TM-1999-209013 Continual Improvement Mark Nunnelee, FO, was honored for developing a calibration system that improved the effectiveness and overall operation of the Flight Loads Lab. Facilities Engineer Ron Sun, FD, was honored for his excellence in structural engineering and project management as demonstrated by the success of the various seismic upgrade projects and the building 4800 WATR addition. Group Dryden Management System Core Team, received this award for paving the way to the goal of making Dryden the first NASA Aerospace Enterprise Center to be 100 percent certified to ISO 9001 international standards. Henry Arnaiz Mentor Award Allen Parker, Jr., RS, was honored for his dedication, patience, skill, and upbeat attitude in mentoring students inside and outside of Dryden. Outreach/Opportunity Award Roberta Ross, A, received this honor for her generous nature and strength of purpose that represent the Dryden spirit. Project Engineer Al Bowers, RA, was honored for his exceptional technical expertise and enthusiasm in contributing to the development of the Blended Wing Body Low Speed Vehicle. Research Engineer/Scientist Daniel Banks, RA, received this honor for his advocacy and technical expertise in the development of ground and flight based infrared imaging technology in support of the supersonic transport, X-plane and Space Shuttle programs. James Ferguson Safety Award: Gary (Grizz) Lewis, SCSC, received the award for his firm but friendly adherence to safety procedures in construction and electrical activities. Steven B. Davis Outstanding Co-op: John Yockachonis, OA, earned the honor for his exceptional workmanship, dedication, and attention to detail in avionics. Supervisor/Manager Jennifer Baer-Riedhart, T, was honored for her positive attitude and patient understanding as a manager and leader of the Public Affairs, Commercialization and Education Office. Technical Support James Mills, OA, received this award for his professional and safe execution of extensive modification to the Active Aeroelastic Wing flight program. Technician, Electrical Brian Barr, FO, was honored for his workmanship and innovation in constructing the Blended Wing Body Actuator test stand. Technician, Mechanical Daryl Townsend, OM, received this honor for his innovative solutions and creative thinking that made it possible to continue the Active Aeroelastic Wing Program. Contractor Employees Administrative Nancy Brown, SCSC, was honored for leading her staff with patience and perseverance in the closeout process for Dryden Procurement. Engineer Shaun McWherter, ASandM, received this honor for significant contributions in coordinating and integrating multi disciplinary mission planning requirements on the SRA and Hyper X projects and his achievement as a SRA mission controller. Manager Pedro Arevalo, Ameriko-Omserv, was honored for his "lead by example" and "get involved" attitude as a janitorial services manager, keeping Dryden clean and tidy. Technician Hector Rodriguez, Woodside Summit Group, received this honor for his professional attitude and commitment to superior customer service at the Western Aeronautical Test Range. Technical Support Muriel Khachooni, SCSC, was honored for her friendliness and commitment to excellence as a technical publications editor. Special Awards – Contractors Aerotherm Corporation Meritorious Service Awards: DC-8 Daumants Belte, Vicki Hinkley, Rudy Mendiola and Michelle Rademacher. Analytical Services and Materials Special Achievement Awards: Victor Bender, Larry Cassidy, Casey Donohue, Joe Gera and Shaun McWherter. ETS: Cory Rung, Ron Mathews and Tim Stidham. Spotlight Awards: Peggy Carbo, Randy Glass, Maribel Gutierrez, Steve Hoffman, Jay Levine and Steve Thomas GRD, Inc. Outstanding Performance: Candace Mertes Kalman and Company Employee of the Year: System Safety, Ken Cross; Management System Support – Frank Zahiri and Rebecca Lopez.
