X-38 Vehicle 131R heads for home with its new 7,500-square-foot parafoil.

X-38 Vehicle 131R made its maiden flight Nov. 2 and achieved a number of firsts for the project. The flight gave researchers valuable information they will use to optimize systems for this X-38 and for a space-faring version under development.

Discovery makes Dryden appearance

The Space Shuttle Discovery (OV-103) made a rare appearance at Edwards Air Force Base Oct. 24 when it landed on runway 22 following a complex 13-day mission devoted to construction on the International Space Station (ISS) and the transfer of equipment from the Shuttle to the ISS.

This latest mission, known as STS-92, was also the 100th mission of NASA's Space Shuttle program.
