Dryden stages AECC sessionsBy Jay LevineX-Press Editor The Aerospace Education Coordinating Committee met at Dryden Oct. 14-15. The NASA committee is composed of NASA education directors and aerospace education specialists from the five NASA Aero-Space Centers. The five participating Centers included Dryden; Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif.; Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio; Langley Research Center Hampton, Va; and Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala. The purpose of the tri-annual meeting is to build strategies for conducting educational outreach and developing educational products that use NASA's aeronautical and aerospace missions as the context for teaching math, science, technology and geography. The group became active three years ago as a liaison to Code R, then Aeronautics, to use current aerospace projects as a context for teaching students, adding to educational materials already available on astronauts and NASA's space mission. "We want to use up-to-date, inspiring NASA educational materials that highlight the aero mission. We have several products and programs under development focusing on Dryden's aerospace projects," said Dr. Marianne McCarthy, Dryden's Education Programs Officer. Aerospace Education Coordinating Committee Members include Don James, Christiy Budenbender and Lisa Coe from Ames; James Pruitt and Trista Guthrie of Marshall; Jenny Kishiyama and Bill Anderson from NASA Headquarters; Lee Duke and McCarthy, Dryden; and Dr. Samuel Massenberg, Pete Thomas, Tom Pinelli and Bob Star from Langley. LaShunda Waterman and Joanne Larson from Dryden also were guests. |
