Dryden, JSC enter new agreement
Dryden Aircraft Maintenance Operations Teaming for the Future is a vision that the Johnson Space Center (JSC) Blue Ribbon NASA Aviation Logistics Computerized Management Information System (NALCOMIS) team brought to Dryden during a June visit. Kari Alvarado, Dryden Aircraft Maintenance Operations lead, orchestrated the JSC visit to provide formal training to Dryden aircraft maintenance technicians. Mike Axline heads the Johnson team, which also includes Stan Phillips and Mennow Homburg, who are experts in one or more facets of the system. The Dryden visit aimed to strengthen NALCOMIS knowledge and stimulate and focus its day-to-day use. Mike Axline and his team experienced NALCOMIS start-up problems, which included training. Johnson designed a lesson plan to walk Dryden technicians through scenarios they will encounter while using the system. Dryden aircraft maintenance technicians did not receive formal training at the inception of the NALCOMIS and welcomed assistance from the Johnson team. NALCOMIS training is lauded as an outstanding success and is paving the way for full automation. Alvarado's plan is to transition to a fully automated aircraft fleet of both research and support aircraft focusing on the centralization of aircraft management information and data analysis. Johnson and Dryden are the only NASA sites that use this aircraft maintenance management system. It was originally created for the Navy and was adapted to support Johnson and Dryden requirements. Those requirements, although similar, are different. Dryden's primary focus is on flight research, while Johnson's is access to space. By teaming, both sites can better understand current requirements and have broader insight into the dynamics of the future, Alvarado said. Code O senior management, Chief of Aircraft Maintenance Division Jerry Henry and the Director of Flight Operations Rogers Smith, said they strongly endorse this growing relationship and foresee more opportunities for future teaming. |
