Bee careful

Africanized Bees, or killer bees, might look like ordinary bees, but they don’t act like them.

Killer bees are migrating all over the United States and a few facts could come in handy.

For example, these bees stay angry for up to an hour compared to average bees that chase for 27 yards and give up. Killer bees have a bad temper and about 400 bees or more could give chase for up to 400 yards.

As far as 50 feet away these bees might defend their territory and people are encouraged to rid their homes or workplaces of possible nesting sites such as empty boxes, cans, buckets or containers, lumber piles and watch for activity in sheds, garages and outside walls and eves.

Pest control is the best option for removing the bees, but there are other cautions people should take; teach children to avoid bees, check lawns or work areas before using mowers or other tools, be alert when playing sports and seal openings larger than 1/8 inch around the home.
