Description:
The Atmospheric Turbulence Measurement System booms extend forward from the Pathfinder-Plus solar wing as it soars over Rogers Dry Lake on its final flight.

Project
Description:
NASA and AeroVironment, Inc. joined forces again in 2004-05 to conduct a series of research flights by the solar-electric Pathfinder-Plus flying wing. The lightweight solar craft has been instrumented with a sophisticated atmospheric turbulence measurement system on seven long booms mounted across the leading edge of the wing. About three or four low-altitude flights over the edge of Rogers Dry Lake are intended to help engineers characterize the effects of turbulence on the aerodynamics of lightweight, flexible-structure aircraft.
