Description: Two NASA F/A-18 aircraft are participating in the Autonomous Formation Flight mission over California's Mojave Desert. The two-seat Systems Research Aircraft (tail number 845) leads the formation for the drag-reduction study that mimics the flight pattern of migrating birds. The aircraft are approximately 55 feet apart from tail of the lead to nose of the trailing F/A-18 tail number 847.
